The country of Bhutan has a unique interpretation of what makes their nation a success: instead of focusing on the countries Gross National Product, a concept mostly unrelated to a populations well being, since 1972 they have officially focused on “Gross National Happiness.” Now renowned traveling story collector Jonathan Harris has put together an inspiring website of his 2007 project Balloons of Bhutan. Harris traveled the Himalayan kingdom giving out balloons and capturing a storied portrait of the nations happiness.
This new sculpture by Korean artist U-Ram Choe is beautiful to behold, but it’s far more than meets the eye. The peacefully decaying body of a seal like animal rests on the sea floor, kelp like forms growing from its body… then it begins to move. Using a fascinating internal mechanism, the animal gently breaths; its forest of kelp delicately waving above.
Just another walk, another good day for coffee and a pencil sketch… And there was an Elephant in my head! His name is Mr.Charlie, and he was kidnapped for some reason, I think he is a bad-ass in reality, maybe a double-agent sort of thing… who knows! Mr.Charlie dropped from my head to my hand to the sketchbook with sweet pencil shades (Lately, I’ve been working on Pencil shading, If you’ve seen Wonder Woman Sketch)… Once cup of coffee and a Blueberry muffin later, and about 30 minutes, I thought… “Mr.Charlie, you are in trouble!”

As a Coffee+Doughnuts fun sketch today, I took the Amazonia princess as my muse tonight… Started with a pencil sketch on my sketchbook, cleaned the sketch after scanning (300dpi – the higher the resolution the better your drawing results will be)… then started adding some shading and colors all around… not done yet, but this is a good one-hour work. Woot Woot!
